Auntie Dee’s Holiday Liquor

Under popular request, just a little something I make for the family during the holidays!

  • 1 C granulated sugar
  • 2 C water
  • 4 C vodka – the higher the proof, or smoother the taste the better
  • 3 C fresh or frozen fruit
  • 1 gallon sized glass jar with tight lid

In a medium sauce pan, make a simple syrup by bringing 2 cups water and 1 cup sugar to a boil, stirring constantly to make sure all sugar is dissolved.  Set aside to cool.  While syrup is cooling, pour vodka and fruit into jar, pour cooled syrup over the top, seal jar tightly and shake to combine.  Allow to ferment in a cool, dark space for 4 weeks, shaking once a week. (Can also be done using brandy.)

Fruit combinations suggestions:

With Vodka:

  • Frozen strawberries & 4 kiwi
  • Blackberries and Raspberries
  • Cranberries and Raspberries
  • Star fruit, oranges, lemons, limes & pineapple
  • Granny Smith apples & cinnamon sticks

With Brandy:

  • Blackberries
  • Granny Smith apples & cinnamon sticks
  • blackberries & raspberries

Note:  Try a combination of your favorite fruits and make up a new flavor!  Is excellent served blended with vanilla ice cream or on the rocks with a splash of Sprite or 7Up.
